Passengers flying out of Athens International Airport on Friday were faced with long delays, some exceeding an hour, after air-traffic controllers responded with a go-slow to a court decision that ruled their strike on Sunday illegal.
The delays arose after air traffic controllers decided to "work-to-rule" and also refused to work overtime.
According to airport authorities, 37 flights out of Athens airport were delayed by 2:00 p.m. on Friday, with delays ranging from half an hour to 80 minutes. Passengers had boarded the planes on time but these then had to wait on the runway for permission to take off.
Earlier on Friday, an Athens court ruled a 24-hour strike over financial demands called by air traffic controllers next Sunday illegal.
