Greek budget deficit up 19% in January-August

Greece's state budget deficit widened by 19 percent on a cash basis in the January-August period, the Bank of Greece said on Monday.

The central bank, in a report, said this development reflected deviations both in the revenue and the spending legs. The budget deficit totaled 18.6 billion euros in the eight-month period, up from 15.7 bn euros in the same period last year. Budget revenues were down 5.0 percent to 31 bn euros, while spending rose 9.8 percent to 47.9 bn euros.
