Volleyball: Greece to enter Olympic qualifying group

The men's national team has seen off Bosnia-Herzegovina in the playoffs for qualification to the 2012 Olympic Games, to reach the all-important qualifying group.

Playing both the home and away games at Trikala in central Greece, Greece won 3-1 (25-20, 25-27, 25-21, 25-16) and 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-12) on September 3 and 4 respectively, producing some decent volleyball for the 2,200 passionate fans who filled the local court's stands to their capacity.

The ongoing clash between the national squad's players and the federation did not stop the team from scoring two relatively easy victories, although the dream of reaching the Olympics is particularly distant.

Greece will now have to negotiate a six-team group, involving Montenegro, the teams to finish third, fourth and sixth in this month's European Championship, and the team whose country will host this qualifying group, unknown as yet.

The qualifying group stage will take place on November 22-27. Only the top team does advance to the final qualifying stage.
