FIFA imposes points deduction on OFI

FIFA punished OFI Crete with the deduction of six points from the Super league table on Wednesday for a debt to a former player.

This means that OFI is now sliding to last with -1 point, from the five they had earned in the first four rounds of games this season.

Marius Suleap, who played for OFI two years ago, is allegedly owed 68,000 euros and took his case to the world football's governing body.

FIFA ruled in his favour even though OFI officials had suggested last week there would not be a problem with the 32-year-old Romanian midfielder as they had reportedly paid him 10,000 euros.

FIFA informed the Greek federation about its verdict and the federation has also informed the Super League.

Although there can be no appeal to the decision, OFI could still escape the penalty is they pay Suleap the money they owe him immediately.

Local reports from Iraklio suggested on Wednesday that OFI have actually paid the whole amount and have the receipts for it, and that club officials blame the player's agent for the whole affair.
