When Greece was in the money

For a brief period of my life, in the late 1990s, I was a millionaire. Unfortunately, in drachmas only.
Between 1996 and 2008 I lived in Greece, working for the European Union. When I moved to Thessalaloniki from London in 1996, I was used to plastic money. I rarely carried cash. British people hadn't carried actual paper money for years. It was a liability: you were asking for trouble if you had more than a couple of quid in your pocket.
