A1 Basketball: Panathinaikos lose unbeaten record

Suddenly there is life in the Greek league. European champions Panathinaikos suffered a shock loss at Kavala on Sunday, adding fresh interest to the local championship just one week after the Greens' derby win over Olympiakos.

Kavala enjoyed a three-point festival that saw it beat the champions 79-70 and climb to third spot on the table, while Panathinaikos showed they had been exhausted by their efforts against Olympiakos and Malaga in the space of one week.

The Greens had just 20 percent in three-pointers, while the hosts had an impressive 12 out 23 outside the 6.75-metre line.

Olympiakos and Panionios top the table with five wins in six games. Olympiakos defeated visiting Kolossos Rhodes 93-82, while Panionios saw off a winless Maroussi 69-67 away.

PAOK came from behind to down AGO Rethymnou 76-71 at home in a very tight game to climb to fourth on the table.

Ilisiakos moved up to fifth, beating Peristeri in comprehensive fashion with a 70-59 score at Zografou.

Ikaros Kallitheas scored their first league win this year, with a 79-68 score over newly promoted KAO Dramas at the court of Glyfada.
