The Blue Flag Programme is owned and run by the non-government, non-profit organisation the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE). The flags, which are awarded annually, are based on a number of criteria, including water quality, infrastructures, services and environmental activities.
With 394 Greek beaches and 9 marinas, Greece is again the world's second in 2012 among 41 countries.
