Charisteas signs contract with Schalke

Schalke is the next challenge for the career of Euro-2004 winner Angelos Charisteas.
The Serres-born striker signed a six-month contract with the Bundesliga side, as the club's manager Felix Magath confirmed on Sunday.
"The loss to Hoffenheim showed us that we need a striker who is strong in the air," the German coach told Kicker magazine.
Charisteas is joining fellow
Greeks Vassilis Pliatsikas and Kyriakos Papadopoulos but has Raul and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar ahead of him in the pecking order.
Charisteas spent the first couple of months of the season at French strugglers Arles-Avignon.
He has also played for Wedrer Bremen, Nuremberg and Bayer Leverkusen in the Bubdesliga. He featured and 122 games and scored 26 goals.
