Munich court rejects Volker Jung extradition

Three days before the date set for the submission of a report by a Parliamentary fact-finding committee on the Siemens kickbacks case, the committee's 19 MP members began final consultations on the first part of the report.

At the same time, however, a document from the Munich prosecutor's office was delivered to the fact-finding committee, conveying a ruling by a lower appeals court to reject a European arrest warrant issued by the Athens appeals court for Volker Jung, a former Siemens Hellas executive. The latter fled Greece while on bail and while under investigation for his role in the Siemens scandal.

The Munich appeals court, with its ruling of November 24, 2010, declared the extradition unacceptable because, as it claimed, the actions for which the defendant is charged have been written off, according to German law.
