Shipyard workers clash with police

Four people were reported injured in scuffles that broke out on Tuesday during a rally staged by Perama shipyard workers outside the Piraeus Port Authority building, following a protest march that started outside the Piraeus Isap electric railway terminal at 3:00 p.m.

According to initial reports, those injured were taken to Asklipio Hospital in Voula by ambulance.

The roughly 400 shipyard workers, 100 of them on motorbikes, claimed to have been attacked by Mat riot police using tear gas. The protestors remained gathered outside the Piraeus port building after the incidents.

KKE reaction

The opposition Communist Party of Greece (KKE) condemned the incidents, stressing that the government and the Piraeus Port Authority aim was to intimidate and punish the workers and the trade unions that fight for their rights.
