President Papoulias: There's a solution to crisis, and it's political

President of the Republic Karolos Papoulias on Sunday called on the country’s political forces to “converge” towards a common political goal, speaking from the northeast border city of Didymoticho, where he was declared an honorary citizen during a special event.

“We are in the midst of a very difficult course. Our problem is the guaranteeing of social peace and cohesion. There is a solution, and it’s political; we must all lift ourselves above the petty and devote ourselves to the significant (aims),” he said.

Following the ceremony, the Greek president toured the Byzantine-era walls and fortress in the municipality, before attending a reception in his honor hosted by local office-holders at the city hall.
