Malaysia, OPAP And Fixed Matches

Greek state-controlled betting company OPAP urged the regulation of the domestic gambling market in order to stop transgressions of law, which damage football and sports betting.

OPAP executives told Capital.gr that there is need for clear framework in the market to end the activity of illegal companies, which are advertised and operate without let or hindrance. The recent case of fixed games showed that there is no regulation.

They pointed out Malaysia and other Asian countries, where the most of the flow of illegal betting in Greek football games headed. In this context, General Secretary of Sports Panos Bitsaxis asked the Athens Prosecutor to investigate to investigate the allegations on illegal betting.

OPAP administration assumes that the financial and commercial losses suffered by the case of the fixed matches is given, but the amount of matches bet in OPAP was small, as the Asian companies were preferred.

The company asks for the further safeguard against malicious acts. It promoted the adoption of a player card, in order to monitor the age, self-restrictions and cash flows. The relevant bill provides the issue of such a card, although several other betting companies are against such a provision.
