Kyrgiakos swaps Liverpool for Wolfsburg
Former Greece defender Sotiris Kyrgiakos will return to German football after signing with Bundesliga side Wolfsburg on Monday, the club announced.
The experienced central defender signed a two-year contract with the club managed by Felix Magath, who had also eyed Panathinaikos's Jean Alain Boumsong for the same spot.
"I am here to play, if possible, in all games with Wolfsburg. This is a very good team, which I have had in mind since it won the league in 2009," said former Liverpool man Kyrgiakos.
Magath described Kyrgiakos as "a player who can provides us with some guarantee at the back."
Kyrgiakos had extended his contract at the Kop earlier this summer, but decided to return to Germany after three years in England.
"Sotis" had 51 games with Eintracht Frankfurt from 2006 to 2008.
