Protesters, who had gathered outside St. Demetrios cathedral in Thessaloniki during the celebration mass marking the 99th anniversary since the city's liberation from Ottoman rule and honouring its patron saint, booed government ministers and shouted abuse at the officials present.
Representing the government were Defence Minister Panos Beglitis and Deputy Infrastructure Minister Yiannis Magriotis, military leaders, MPs, party leaders, local government officials and former Greek president Christos Sartzetakis.
