Volleyball: Upsets are the rule in the new league

The new A1 volleyball championship is by far the most unpredictable since the foundation of the Greek league a few decades ago, with one upset coming after another and the field being wide open for all 12 teams taking part, as the first and the second round of games have shown.

Champions Olympiakos suffered a 3-2 loss at Ethnikos Alexandroupolis on Monday after Panathinaikos lost by the same score at newly-promoted Pamvochaikos on Friday.

PAOK had a hard time beating Kifissia 3-2 on Saturday and only title favourites Iraklis had an easy win, downing Apollon Kalamarias 3-0 at home.

The games between Aris and Lamia and between Finikas Syrou and EA Patras will take place on November 2.

Pamvochaikos 3 Panathinaikos 2 (17-25, 25-22, 23-25, 25-17, 15-13)

PAOK 3 Kifissia 2 (21-25, 25-16, 25-21, 18-25, 17-15)

Iraklis 3 Apollon K. 0 (25-20, 25-18, 25-20)

Ethnikos Al. 3 Olympiakos 2 (18-25, 25-22, 25-22, 17-25, 16-14)
