A powerful bomb exploded at 8.20 a.m. Tuesday morning outside a local court building in a central district of Athens causing material damages but no human injuries.
The blast in Ambelokipi districtoccured outside the Court of First Instance. Windows
shattered and at least ten cars were damaged.
There had been two warning telephone calls to private television channel ALTER and daily newspaper Eleftherotypia 40 minutes before the explosion, urging the evacuation of the surrounding buildings.
Greek media reported that the bomb was located on a motorcycle parked outside the court. The motorcycle had been stolen a day earlier.
There has been no immediate claim of responsibility.
News Portal Proto Thema quoting police sources reported that first indications showed the explosives used were industrial AMFO (Ammonium Nitrate Fuel Oil).
The attack follows a series of police raids in several houses in Athens that uncovered weapon arsenals and ended in arresting several people belonging to local urban guerrilla groups like Revolutionary Struggle, Conspiracy of the Cells of Fire.
Last month a series of parcel bombs sent to various foreign embassies in Athens.
Last Monday, a parcel bomb was sent to the Greek embassy in Rome. Local police has been investigating a possible link between Italian and Greek anarchists.
