Two seamen fatally injured in the Atlantic

Two Greek merchant seamen were fatally injured during heavy seas while their oil tanker was sailing in the Atlantic Ocean, it was announced on Thursday.

The tanker "Aegean Angel", owned by the shipping company Arcadia Shipmanagement Co LTD, had left the port of Tallinn, Estonia for Houston and was 800 nautical miles from Bermuda when it encountered heavy seas and gale-force winds.

Based on early information, the ship's 47-year-old captain and the 33-year-old 1st engineer, both Greek nationals, were on the deck inspecting the vessel for damage when they were hit and fatally injured by a massive wave, while the 34-year-old Cypriot first mate was seriously injured.
