Free pap smears in context of European Cervical Cancer Prevention Week

Free pap smears (Papanikolaou tests) will be available to all women in Greece from 15 years of age and up at the of country's state and university hospitals with gynecology clinics throughout the last week of January (24-31), it was announced on Friday. 
 
The programme of the free screening throughout the country is being carried out in the framework of the National Action Plan against cancer and the 5th annual European Cervical Cancer Prevention Week. 
 
Although early diagnosis is possible through pap smears, cervical cancer is the second most frequent form of cancer among the female population worldwide.
