The Reds’ new president, Vangelis Marinakis reportedly agreed with new Panionios chairman Gerasimos Ventouris for the move of the Greek international from Nea Smyrni to
Piraeus for 500,000 euros plus a six-month loan of Mitroglou and Manolis Moniakis to Panionios with immediate effect.
All that is left now for the deal to be sealed is for Olympiakos to complete their agreement with Maniatis himself, which will be no more than a mere formality.
This means that Greece forward Mitroglou will finally get to play some games as had not been getting much action with Olympiakos in competitive games under manager Ernesto Valverde.
German-born Mitroglou had expressed his desire not to move to Panionios but to Aris, while he had also drawn the attention of Werder Bremen.
Defender Moniakis signed a four-year contract with Olympiakos this week, moving to Olympiakos from second-division side OFI Crete.
