Ragousis puts a stop to the legalization of immigrants

'The government will not proceed to misguided legalizations, either massive or individual, as it has not done so during the past 15 months', as reiterated by the ministry of Interior.

To implement this commitment, on Monday the minister of the Interior signed the decision to abolish a previous decision of 2009 by the then minister Prokopis Pavlopoulos, by which
the relevant officials had individually legalized 15 immigrants, mostly from Morocco, who had come  to Greece illegally and were staying at Chania.

Earlier on Monday the minister, talking to a radio station, had revealed that after a hunger strike and because of the health problems it created 15 immigrants, they were legalized and there was a relevant decision signed by Pavlopoulos.

As he said, maybe this explains the occupation of the Law School, «just two years ago, at the beginning of 2009, or the end of 2008, there was another attempt of 15 – if I remember correctly – Moroccans, again from Chania. They started from there, came to Athens, begun their hunger strike and then what? They were legalized by the previous government».

«This was a great encouragement to the whole story that ended with the occupation of the Law School, because in reality what did they want to do? The same thing – let’s say – the same attempt, thinking that we would react in the same way. Which, I want to say once again, never happened as you saw. The occupation was over, without us backing out, which we can’t, are not allowed to and will not do in the future».

The minister said that the procotr administration made an initial mistake which they corrected later, and stressed that he is waiting for the decisions of Justice.
