Comicdom Con Athens 2011

The Hellenic American Union and Comicdom Presspresent the only
Greek festival exclusively devoted to comics, Comicdom Con Athens, for sixth consecutive year at the Hellenic American Union. The well-established comic festival Comicdom Con Athens for three days (April 8 - April 10, 2011) hosts international guests, young and independent artists, talks, screenings and workshops, the renowned, well-stocked bazaar with new comic publications from the Greek publishing houses, the Comicdom Awards (the only Greek comic book awards) and more. At the center of interest in this year's event is the exhibition "Batman: Yesterday and Tomorrow", which presents four different aspects of the historical and aesthetic evolution of one of the most popular comic heroes, Batman. The exhibition opens on April 8, 2011 - the first day of the Comicdom Con Athens 2011- and will remain open to the public until April15, 2011.
"Batman: Yesterday and Tomorrow" is part of the exhibition hosted last year under the same name at the Cartoon Art Museum of San Francisco. It presents four comic artists, each of whom presents his own, unique approach to the historical and aesthetic evolution of one of comics first and foremost superheroes: Batman. Original pages by Bob Kane, Neal Adams, Bob Brown and Joe Giella, along with rare pages from Japanese Jiro Kuwata's Bat-Manga, published during the ‘60s, will be exhibited at the Hellenic American Union Hadjikyriakos-Ghikas Gallery, which has been specially outfitted for the occasion to better fit the atmosphere surrounding the famous crime-fighter. On the occasion of this exhibition, the writer, screenwriter and curator of the Cartoon Art Museum, Andrew Farago, will be visiting Athens.
Special guests of the festival are the many times award-winner Chris Ware, David Prudhomme, creator among others of the awarded comic album Rebetiko - La Mauvaise Herbe (in cooperation with Institut Francais), Sonia Leong, designer and illustrator (in cooperation with British Council), Bruno Brindisi, designer of popular Italian comics (invited by Jemma Press) and the award-winner Shaenon K. Garrity screenwriter, comics artist, editor at Viz Media and webcomics artist.
Also, the documentary GRANT MORRISON: TALKING WITH GODS is being premiered in Greece as part of the special screenings of the festival. The documentary is dedicated to Grant Morrison, one of the most famous and ambiguous personalities in comics art.
Finally, integral part of the festival are the workshops for kids, which will bring the public in contact with the enchanting world of the pictorial storytelling through special educational workshops.
