'It was our worst game', says Santos

God may not exactly be Greek, as the local sports newspapers
suggested on Sunday, but the national team will be thankful for the late, late miracle that spared their blushes at Valletta allowing them to beat Malta 1-0 on Saturday.
A lacklustre performance by the players of coach Fernando Santos eventually did not cost them as Vassilis Torosidis managed to score the winning goal in the very last minute of injury time to send Greece to the top of its qualifying group for the European Championship of 2012.
"This was probably our worst game, but we won it thanks to the passion and the heart of our players," said Santos afterwards.
Georgia's 1-0 home victory over Croatia, Greece's main rival for the top spot, meant that the Greeks are now one point ahead of the Croats and two of the Georgians.
On Tuesday Greece are hosting Poland at the Karaiskaki Stadium in a friendly game. Victory will allow Greece to edge closer to finishing the season at the top-10 of the FIFA rankings, which will entail a top seeding in the draw for the 2014 World Cup qualifiers in July.
Santos intends to field a changed lineup, featuring Olympiakos winger Yiannis Fetfatzidis and Panionios forward Costas Mitroglou in the starting XI, as the last training session before the game showed on Monday.
Also on Tuesday Israel are hosting Georgia for Greece's group and if Georgia win they will go top, one point ahead of Greece.
