An over-ambitious aim for 2013

Giorgos Papakonstantinou will attend the Eurogroup
meeting on Monday bearing a specific plan for privatizations that will be surpassing the expectations of the memorandum, in order to persuade the partners that Greece will fulfill the terms for the facilitation it will receive.

According to sources, as collateral for the extension and the reduction of the loan rates, the government will present a program under which the first 10 billion of the total 15-20 billion for the next 2 years will not come from the sale of listed SOEs, but from an ambitious plan for using government property, including express procedures for big projects, the securing of state rights and the creation of investment funds, and even joint ventures for the utilisation of real estate.

The area of the former airport at Elliniko will be at the forefront of the “attack”. The PM will have consecutive meetings with ministers, mayors and the architect Josep Acebillo, to draw the plan for the future use of the area. The announcements are expected in March, while the final plan will go to consultation.

The privatizations are part of the compensation for the facilitation that will be granted to Greece at the summit on March 25th. Giorgos Papakonstantinou will visit Brussels on Monday to explain to the European partners the new list of privatization plans for the 50 billion and the new austerity measures for the period of 2012-14.

At midday on Tuesday the minister is organizing a meeting on the midterm adjustments required in the Greek economy and society.
