Greece is the favourite for promotion back to the Super League of the European Athletics Association after coming on top at the halfway point of the First Division of the European Team Championship in Izmir, Turkey on Saturday.
The national athletics squad leads the First Division table after the first day that included 21 events with 178 points, with hosts Turkey in second on 173.5 points, Norway in third (150.5 points) and Belgium in fourth (144 points).
The top three teams of the 12-team table get promoted to the Super League.
Greece got maximum points from Periklis Iakovakis (400 metres hurdles), Nicole Kyriakopoulou (pole vault), Voula Papachristou (long jump), Dimitris Chondrokoukis (high jump) and Louis Tsatoumas (long jump).
The Championship concludes on Sunday.
