National coach Fernando Santos, who is usually very reserved in his remarks, could not conceal his satisfaction with the outcome of the draw for the qualifying groups of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
"The truth is that the draw was good for Greece, if we also take a look at the other groups," he said late on Saturday, after the end of the process in Rio de Janeiro that has placed the Euro-2004 winners in the same pool as Slovakia, Bosnia Herzegovina, Lithuania, Latvia and Liechtenstein.
"There are, however, countries that have good teams such as Bosnia and Slovakia, which was also present in the World Cup of South Africa [last year]," the Portugese manager added.
Greece were seeded as group leader for being among Europe’s top nine teams in the FIFA rankings in July.
"On the occasion of the draw I wish to congratulate our players as it was thanks to their effort that Greece was placed as a group leader," said the national team's technical director Takis Fyssas.
