Finance Minister: New measures if property surtax not collected in full

"The government will impose additional measures if the real estate property surtax is not collected in its total", Vice-President and Finance Minister Evangelos Venizelos said on Saturday, after the conclusion of a Eurogroup and Ecofin session in Poland.

According to Venizelos the imposition of the surtax is mandatory in order for the country to meet its obligations and reduce the deficit to the required level.

"Unfortunately, a solid national front does not exist. Some believe they are resisting by undermining the measure's efficiency, resulting in our EU partners to downgrade the measure's efficiency ... if this happens then we will take more measures. This is a vicious circle, which we, alone, created because some believe they are resisting the government's policy, which is mandatory and necessary for reasons of national interests," he said.

Referring to the disbursement of the sixth tranche of the bailout package, he termed it "a substantial problem".

"It is crucial that these (July 21 eurozone) decisions be implemented, because they mostly refer to Greece's public debt," he emphasised.
