Greece finish sixth at Eurobasket

Greece finished in sixth place at Eurobasket 2011 after losing 73-69 to hosts Lithuania on Saturday.

Lithuania had led for most of the second half of the game but Greece mounted a late comeback that threatened to defeat their opponents. Nick Calathes led Greece with 16 points.

Despite the defeat, coach Ilias Zouros should be pleased with his team's performance. Missing eight players for a variety of reasons, Greece had a number of inexperienced players taking part in the European Championships.

This meant that the team's aim was to finish in the top six so it could have a chance of qualifying for next year's Olympics in London.

Greece will now be one of the teams taking part in a pre-Olympic tournament, where three places at the Games will be up for grabs.
