Volleyball: All leagues suspended, except A1

All volleyball leagues, except for the top flight in the men’s game, are suspended as the financial crisis is hitting Greek sports hard, the federation announced on Thursday.

The Hellenic Volleyball Federation’s executive committee issued a statement saying that “following an authorisation by the federation’s governing board, we have decided to cancel the start of all national and local championships for financial reasons.”

The decision affects the whole of the Greek volleyball’s pyramid, except for the men’s A1 that is organised by the Volley League.

The women’s A1 championship, among the most popular in Greece, was supposed to start on October 15.

It follows the decision by the Hellenic Handball Federation to suspend the operation of all national teams except for the men’s.
