Athens 2011 Special Olympics flame arrives in Crete - schedule

The Flame of Hope for Athens 2011 Special Olympics was lit during a formal torch lighting ceremony on Thursday, June 9.

 The journey of the flame across
all of Greece, as well as Turkey and Cyprus has begun before returning to Athens for the Games.


Athens 2011 Special Olympics will host 7,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities from nearly 180 countries from 25 June - 4 July.

The Flame of Hope will be arriving in Hania, Crete on board the ship "Elyros" on Monday. The start of the torch run relay will take place at Kasteli, Kissamos at 10 in the morning. 
The Flame will be carried by 46 people, three children-athletes of the Special Olympics and 43 policemen from various countries around the world.
